Schweizerisch-Haitianische Künstlerin plant Helikopterflug zur Umbenennung des Agassizhorns
Swiss-Haitian Artist Intends to Rebaptise Alpine Peak by Helicopter

Die schweizerisch-haitianische Künstlerin Sasha Huber (*1975), Mitglied des transatlantischen Komitees "Démonter Louis Agassiz", plant als Teil ihrer Ausstellung in Helsinki, Ende August dieses Jahres per Helikopter eine Tafel samt einem Bild des Sklaven Renty auf dem 3946 Meter hohen Agassizhorn an der Grenze zwischen den Kantonen Bern und Wallis zu deponieren. Damit soll an die Tatsache erinnert werden, dass der Schweizer Naturforscher und Glaziologe Louis Agassiz (1807-1873) ein international bedeutender Rassist und ein Vordenker der Apartheid war und dass deshalb das Agassizhorn in "Rentyhorn" umgetauft werden soll. Dies in Gedenken an jenen Sklaven kongolesischer Herkunft, den Agassiz in den 1850er-Jahren auf einer Plantage in South Carolina fotografieren liess, um "die Minderwertigkeit der schwarzen Rasse zu beweisen". Sasha Huber lebt und arbeitet in Helsinki, Finnland.

Dear Sir or Madam
Swiss-Haitian artist Sasha Huber (*1975), member of the Transatlantic Committee "De-mounting Louis Agassiz", intends, as part of her upcoming exhibition in Helsinki, to place a plaque including a graphic representation of the slave Renty on top of the Alpine peak Agassizhorn (3946 metres above sea level), situated on the border between the cantons of Berne and Valais. By doing so, the fact is to be commemorated that Swiss-born naturalist and glaciologist Louis Agassiz (1807-1873) was an influential racist and a pioneering thinker of apartheid and that therefore the Agassizhorn ought to be renamed "Rentyhorn" in honour of the Congolese-born black slave of whom Agassiz ordered a photo to be taken on South Carolina plantation, in order "to prove the inferiority of the black race". Sasha Huber lives and works in Helsinki, Finland.
